About Maya

Maya loves to draw, which has been their natural creative outlet for expression and processing the world. Maya has explored different avenues of artistic disciplines to satiate her inquisitive appetite, applying her skills and talent along the way.

In adolescence, Maya fell into theatre, later acquiring a BFA in Theatre Design which led to a career as a scenographer: conceptualizing lights, costumes, and sets/decor for small independent theatre and dance companies. For some years Maya laboured as a scenic painter for the large English theatres in Montreal before a course in sculpting and moulding led to a position as a Greensperson in cinema. Maya continues to work seasonally in film and television.

Maya is now pivoting focus on her initial interest – painting and drawing. Slice of life cartoons, provocative figurative paintings, and abstract landscapes are their current explorations of their world.

She publishes her comic-journal, Maya in India, bi-monthly on Webtoons.
